Tearsong's Equine Athletes, Rescue, and Sanctuary
Sanctuary horses are special and often have special needs. Volunteers are welcome to come and hand walk these horses to graze, groom, and pet these elders. Treats are also welcome in the form of horse cookies, carrots, apples, and watermellon. Little Lou appreciates carrot or apple juice for her feed as her teeth don't handle large treats (but if you want to cut the treats into small pieces no larger than 1 inch.... ). Please help us keep these older horses happy and healthy by choosing a level to sponsor. Starting on the left: $50.00, $75.00, $100.00, $125.00, $150.00 and for Little Lou, who needs pelleted feed which runs about $200.00/month...
This board helps the volunteers know which horses are in need of medical care, what needs to be done, how often, and how long. It also tracks maintenance needs like teeth floating.
Keeping horses at optimum weight using the AAEP Rescue and Sanctuary guidelines requires communication between our RVT and the volunteers. This is a simple way to keep it all straight! Horses are kept between a BCS of 4-6 out of 9 per the American Association of Equine Practitioners which states that the older the horse, the closer to 4 it should be!
Please consider sponsoring one of our sanctuary horses. Care for these horses runs a bit higher than the regular rescues because they are olderand require either special feed and/or medications to keep them comfortable.
