YOUR FINAL CHALLENGE YOU COULD NOT SURMOUNT. FROM ISSUE MARE, TO IDIOT MARE, TO FINALLY GAINING THE RIGHT TO BE CALLED BY YOUR REAL NAME, YOU CAME A LONG WAY FROM THE CONFUSED, PUSHY, AND DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS HORSE YOU CAME TO US AS. WE FINALLY HAD TO GIVE YOU THE PEACE YOU SO NEEDED IN YOUR LIFE AFTER DIAGNOSING YOU WITH METASTATIC MELANOMA AT THE TENDER AGE OF 14 YEARS. AFTER SEVERAL REALLY WONDERFUL DRESSAGE RIDES IN THE AREANA LATE AT NIGHT, WE SENT YOU TO WAIT FOR US AS THE OTHERS BEFORE YOU; AT THE RAINBOW BRIDGE.

HER STORY

Mystique came to us from a trainer who requested that we buy her. Her owner was very timid and this mare literally ran her over when ever they got together. This mare would "lose her brain" and "freak out" when cross tied and sometimes when tied singly. She went over backwards when on long lines and with a rider. We were told that she had slow growing feet and not to have a farrier do her, just a little hand rasping. What they didn't say was that she was dangerous and had been hurt while her feet were trimmed at some point. She was on a very low protien diet and didn't grow any foot or heel until we scrapped all we were told and put her on alfalfa and grain. She now has wonderful feet and is good for the farrier 80% of the time. After much re-hab at Tearsong's Equine Athletes , this mare has finally come into her own. She has been used as a pony horse and she is great on trail. She has some dressage training and moves wonderfully when she decides its OK.

Sadly, Mystique had to be put down in the early spring (2008). She had metastatic melanoma, a type of cancer (melanoma) that usually only causes lumps and masses, particularly around the underside of the tail in grey horses. She never had any lumps, it was throughout her entire body and the only sign was her cervical lymph nodes were enlarged and she was prone to illness.
