Twice a year TEARS joins forces with NERN (National Equine Resource Network) http://www.nationalequine.org/ to hold a low cost gelding clinic.  Stallions and colts must be halter broken to qualify for the Ramona clinics.

A stallion or colt over 4 months of age with 2 decended and palpable testicles costs $75.00. If the stallion or colt has an undecended testicle (or both are undecended), and the colt or stallion is over 4 months of age, the cost is $125.00.

For every stallion there are an estimated 5 foals born. Since we started holding these clinics (all 5 so far) we have castrated 58 stallions and colts. One of our clinics was also able to geld several cryptorchids and repair a few hernias.

In the fall (September time frame) in coujunction with NERN and RVETS (Rural Veterinary Experience and Training Service), we plan on holding a cryptorchid only clinic with a possible additional regular gelding clinic in December in conjunction with NERN and Western University Veterinary School.

EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE FOR VETERINARY TECHNICIANS AND VETERINARY STUDENTS

Students are brought to the rescue or clinic location to learn lecture based topics and hands on procedures enabling them to gain valuable experience in a safe environment with an exceptional instructor. Curriculum is to AVMA standards and students get to practice what they have learned with live patients (using IACUC standards).
