If you have a horse needing rescue or know of a horse needing rescue:

  • TEARS only works with Auction Horse Rescue and Southern California Thoroughbred Rescue. We will also work with veterinarians who have examined the horse and can state the horse is rehomable. If you are another rescue needing assistance with a greater thatn usual influx of horses in need, please contact us for an interview. Please be prepared to share your veterinary contacts, Facebook page, current letters of recommendation, and 3 years of farrier records. We will also require a facility visit by a TEARS volunteer or representative to ensure the rescue is following AAEP standards for rescues and retirement facilities.

  • Rescue means the horse is in need of immediate removal from the current situation

    • Horses that need rehoming are not rescues.

  • We do not take in retirees. We do keep up to 5 horses as sanctuary horses for education purposes. If we have an opening, we will consider a retiree.

  • TEARS can only house 15 horses and will not take horses at this time (as of June, 2014).

    • In order ot properly care for the horses at our facilities, we must limit how many we can take.

  • If you have an older horse to rehome... this will not happen in most instances. Older horses are the most difficult to place and often suffer great mental harm when they no longer have the human that has had them all their life.

    • If you can no longer take care of your injured or elderly horse, do the right thing and euthanize.
