(Xena: Warrior Princess)

 

Xena came ot us because she had intermittent lameness and was unable to continue as a hunter/jumper. The familythat owned her also had her son and they decided they couldn't keep a lame horse. She was about 150lb underweight when we took her.

 

What we didn't know.. until her papers came, was that Katherine the Great (Ms. Leroy) was her dam! We rescued them seperately.. not knowing they were mother and daughter.

Xena was ridable.. on days when her arthritis wasn't acting up... she enjoyed a 2 week stay at the Boy Scout camp just a month prior to her having a strangulating lipoma around her intestines necessitating an emergency euthanasia.

 

Our founder was not prepared for her to leave, Xena was only 19 and her mother Ms. Leroy made it to 25... and had just passed 3 years ago. However, it was not a decision with any other alternative... she was held in the founder's arms as she passed... and tears were shed all the way home... and then some.
